“Artificial Intelligence” A Modern Approach
All you Need to Know about AI - What is it & How does it Work?
In 1956, the word "Artificial Intelligence" was first adopted by an American Computer Scientist named John McCarthy who is considered the father of artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. Simply said, AI is an intelligent entity created by humans thus capable of performing tasks wisely without being explicitly instructed, and capable of thinking and acting rationally.
AI programming focuses on three cognitive skills which are: learning, reasoning, and self-correction. So, what it does is that it works on acquiring data and creating rules or algorithms for how to turn the data into actionable information. Thus, providing step-by-step instructions to complete a specific task. It is also designed to continually fine-tune algorithms and ensure they provide the most accurate results possible.
The building or creation of an AI is not as easy as we all know, since it needs a strong foundation of different technologies to start the process. Python is considered the most in-demand and popular programming language used for AI, due to its wide variety of proven, pre-designed libraries that optimize the AI development process. Yet, AI is also based upon subdomains, which we mention a few below:
-
Machine Learning: is an important program that identifies patterns, analyzes past data, learns to predict the outcome to develop programs that do human-like jobs and portray human skills, and teaches the machine to make inferences and decisions. Deep learning is a subset of machine learning that is the automation of predictive analytics.
-
Machine Vision: is a technology that gives machines the ability to see by capturing and analyzing visual information using a camera, analog-to-digital conversion, and digital signal processing.
-
Natural Language Processing: is the science of reading, understanding, and interpreting human language by a machine and responding to it accordingly. This includes text translation, sentiment analysis, and speech recognition.
-
Cognitive Computing: is the process of mimicking the human brain by analyzing text, speech, images, and objects, and giving the desired output.
-
Neural Network: are a series of algorithms that capture the relationship between various underlying variables and process the data as the human brain does.
Types of AI Technology
There are several types of AI systems, in which 4 important ones are explained in a simplified way here:
-
Reactive Machines: these AI systems have no memory and are task-specific so they perform basic operations in which no learning occurs.
-
Limited Memory: these AI systems have memory, so they use past experiences to inform future decisions.
-
Theory of Mind: these AI systems have the social intelligence to understand emotions and thoughts and interact with them.
-
Self-awareness: these AI systems do not exist yet but are supposed to have a sense of self which gives consciousness and helps to understand current states.
There are other three types of AI that are more tech-oriented and need a stronger foundation of AI. These are Artificial Narrow Intelligence, Artificial General Intelligence, and Artificial Super Intelligence.
AI Revolution - Involvement in our Daily Lives
When we hear of artificial intelligence and how it’s evolving, we think that it’s something only the big tech giants are focused on, and which is far away from us. In fact, AI is blended into our daily lives and lurking in the background of multiple industries, thus playing an active role in simplifying our lives and saving us time and energy. Here are a bunch of examples of how AI is applied in our daily life, from dawn to night, in almost everything we do:
Humanoid Robots: these robots are capable of performing tasks and solving problems up to a limited capacity. I.e. Sophia the Robot
-
Self-driving Cars: these cars are accompanied by sensors that identify all that is going on around the car thus making the correct adjustments.
-
Digital Voice Assistants: these are voice-controlled AI assistants that use natural language processing and generators to provide answers to people’s questions. I.e. Alexa, Google Home, and Siri.
-
Healthcare Management: these are robot-assisted surgeries that provide practitioners with accurate disease detection, diagnosis, treatment, and management processes when making decisions related to patients’ lives.
-
Automated Financial Investing: these are intelligent machines that provide accurate, real-time reporting and processing of quantitative data to help make decisions.
-
Transportation: these are AI-enabled mappings that scan road information and use algorithms to determine the optimal route to take, either by foot, car, bike, bus, or train. I.e. Google Maps.
-
Social Media Management: these are algorithms that personalize what you see on news feeds, suggest people to follow, include photo tagging suggestions, ad targeting, messenger chatbots, and tackle spam or abuse.
-
Marketing Management: these are algorithms that successfully manage marketing campaigns, build in-depth customer insight reports, and strengthen content creation.
-
E-commerce: these are AI-driven algorithms that personalize the user experience, predict purchases, and gather data to create a more customer-centric experience.
-
Face ID Recognition: these are algorithms that allow you to unlock your device using biometrics.
-
Google Search: these are the ads that seem to follow you around with the goal of getting items in front of you that the algorithms believe you will value, and which are based on your search history.
-
Smart Home Devices: these include transforming our homes to become increasingly smart, such as heating/cooling preferences and daily habits that are adjusted to your liking.
AI-powered Content Creation Tools
Clicklers bring to you one of the most exciting and potentially game-changing trends in content creation which is AI. On another note, it is essential to talk about what is known as Content Intelligence, which is a strategy that uses AI systems and software to help marketers create compelling posts, process content data into reliable insights, and get research-backed advice on their marketing strategies. With content intelligence, organizations can create high-value, data-driven, targeted, and conversion-focused content. There are three main steps to content intelligence:
-
Data Collection: AI gathers data from different sources related to content and customer behavior.
-
Analysis: AI analyzes and interprets data, especially those of customers and competitors.
-
Insights and Recommendations: AI develops insights to modify content and make it valuable to the target audience. It may also suggest trends to boost the content’s ROI.
